Hoarding Cleanup Questions, Answered

Honest answers about how hoarding cleanup works, what it costs, and how we protect your privacy. Can't find yours? Call — we're here 24/7.

What is hoarding cleanup?

Hoarding cleanup is the process of sorting, removing and cleaning a home where belongings and debris have built up to the point that the space is unsafe or can no longer be used as intended. It goes beyond junk removal: it includes searching for valuables, deep cleaning, sanitizing and often biohazard handling.

Are the companies you work with licensed and insured?

Yes. We work only with licensed and insured restoration and cleaning companies, and we verify their credentials before they join our network. If a partner's coverage lapses, they do not receive jobs.

Who performs the cleanup?

A vetted restoration or cleaning company from our network does the hands-on work. Our licensed partners handle intake, estimates and coordination, and remain your point of contact.

How is hoarding cleanup different from regular house cleaning?

Regular cleaners are not set up for heavy removal, biohazards, pests or the emotional side of hoarding. Hoarding cleanup specialists bring crews, trucks, protective equipment and a process designed around the person who lives in the home.

How long does a hoarding cleanup take?

A small apartment may take a day. A large, severely hoarded house may take several days or be done in phases. We give you a time estimate along with the price.

How much does hoarding cleanup cost?

Cost depends on the size of the home, the volume of items, the severity, any biohazards or sewage, and how much sorting is needed. Our licensed partners provide free, itemized estimates. See our Hoarding Cleanup Cost page for details.

Does the person who lives there have to be present?

Not necessarily, but we encourage it when possible. Being part of the decisions usually makes the result last. If they cannot be present, an authorized family member, executor or representative can make decisions.

Will you throw everything away?

No. Partner crews sort into keep, donate, recycle and discard, and we ask before removing anything that could matter. Documents, money, jewelry, photos and keepsakes are set aside.

Can you clean extreme or severe hoarding situations?

Yes. Our licensed partners handle severe hoarding cleanup, including homes with blocked exits, pests, animal or human waste, mold and structural concerns.

Do you do biohazard and sewage cleanup?

Yes. Our bio clean up and sewage cleanup services cover animal waste, rodent and insect contamination, spoiled food, sharps, mold and sewer backups.

Are you discreet?

Yes. Unmarked vehicles and plain uniforms are available, and we do not share information about your job with anyone you have not authorized.

Do you offer emergency hoarding cleanup?

Yes. When there is an inspection, eviction deadline, hospital discharge or health hazard, we prioritize getting a crew on site as quickly as scheduling allows.

What happens to items that are removed?

Usable items go to donation where possible, recyclables are separated, and the rest is disposed of properly.

Will insurance cover hoarding cleanup?

Clutter removal is generally not covered, but sudden damage such as a sewage backup or burst pipe may be, depending on your policy. We provide photos and documentation for your claim.

What areas do you serve?

All of Queens — from Astoria and Long Island City to Flushing, Bayside, Jamaica, Howard Beach and the Rockaways. Our office is in Fresh Meadows.

How do I help a family member who hoards?

Lead with concern for their safety, not criticism of their home. Avoid cleaning without their consent, which often backfires. A mental health professional who understands hoarding disorder can help, and we are glad to work alongside them.
